#BeingBuildingGrowing is happening June 3, 2018 from 10 AM to 4 PM
@allsaints Event Space, it’s a free and inclusive art event.
@artspace613 is partnering with Being Studio, street-artist Verbal, performance artist Laura Wood and others to celebrate and showcase the newly accessible spaces at allsaints Event Space during #doorsopenottawa. allsaints has recently upgraded their facilities with the help of funding for accessibility received through the Department of Employment and Social Development Canada, Enabling Accessibility Fund. #Allsaints and #Artspace613 welcome Member of Parliament Mona Fortier at this event to celebrate the elevator addition.
#Being refers to Being Studio, a community of artists with developmental disabilities. Being Studio will showcase works of art from their latest project with renowned local artist Christopher Griffin ‘They Run in Herds’ as well as work from their archives. Artists will be on site to collaborate with visitors on a community stitching and weaving project.
#Building is a creative exercise where visitors co-create a city of cubed murals using recycled or environmentally-friendly materials, under the direction of street-artist Verbal.
#Growing sees visitors planting seeds and seedlings (literally) for an eco-art event happening in the Fall (Nuit Verte), #FaithHouse will be on hand to guide visitors through the planting of their raised beds. Performance artist #LauraWood will wash the hands of those who have planted seeds with rain water that has been collected and that will, in turn, be used to water the freshly planted seeds. Minister #TrishaElliott from Southminster United Church will speak to visitors about the spiritual significance of water.
Other Elements:
· allsaints Event Space chef Kyle Mortimer-Proulx will be showcasing community sourced culinary treats in the on-site Guild Room Café.
· The only Art-o-mat in Canada will also be in historic Borden Hall for this event, #artomat artists Virginia Dupuis & Catherine Gutsche will be here too, to talk about the 20yr #artomat history of making art more accessible.
